COLGAIKAT'S Funfair story

It is winter now. The streets are quite bare, there is not much sign of life and the year is coming to an end but there was a fair in the town. It was all set up and ready to open. Siobhan stood there, amazed. "what a turn up" she thought.

Only ten people visited, then nine of them left, leaving Siobhan mesmerised by the rides, all of the machinery around her and watching the workers. She stood motionless. A vision from the past got into her head, she saw a man, who she had never seen before and she was with him. It seemed to be of a life she had never seen before and then it went out of her head.

Siobhan arrived home and went straight to her computer. She searched and searched and then found her family tree. She found an uncle on it, who had died a few months earlier. She had never known him, but according to the evidence she found, there were three of his sons and two of his daughters, still alive. Then the word "FUNFAIR" drew her attention. Her uncle had been a showman,and the oldest daughter, Adrienne, was now the owner. So this meant that her cousin owned a fair. How amazing!

A couple of months earlier, Siobhan had encountered a gypsy. Since then, she seemed to have been able to see a lot into the future, She had even seen things that she didn't want to. Now this had happened. She felt a bit left out, knowing that she had a family whom she had never met.

The following morning Siobhan set off to try and find her family. She had travelled about a hundred miles, when behold, there in front of her was a sign in a yard which drew her attention. It had her Uncle's surname on it. There were a number of caravans in the yard, so she walked up to the biggest one and knocked on the door. "Could I speak to Adrienne please?" Siobhan was taken aback by this gorgeous hunk of a bloke, who answered the door. Adrienne arrived a few moments later, looking rather flustered. "Hello, can I help you?" "I am your cousin" Siobhan replied "and I have just found out about you." "I'm sorry," Adrienne said "I don't believe you." and went to shut the door. Siobhan quickly shouted "but Miles was my Mum's brother - her name is Gail." Adrienne seemed to soften a bit and said "you'd better come in - well I don't know what to say - come in, sit down." Adrienne called to the guy who had answered the door "Hey, Gavin, this is my cousin, go and put the kettle on will you?" Adrienne turned to Siobhan and asked "I suppose Gail has sent you to ask for her share of my fairground has she? now that I am the sole owner of it." " No of course not " replied Siobhan.

The ice was broken and they chatted for hours together. Siobhan couldn't stop taking the odd glances at Gavin (who was engrossed over piles of paperwork) It turned out that he was a spinner on a waltzer Adrienne owned and was helping her with her accounts etc. Adrienne insisted that Siobhan was to stay the night. The following morning Siobhan returned home and had promised them that she would return in the summer.

Summer arrived and as Siobhan set off on her journey to Adrienne"s fair, she was so excited. When she arrived she couldn't believe the size of it. It was the first fair of the summer and it was huge and packed with crowds of people, of all ages. "What fun this is going to be " she thought. Adrienne met her and introduced her to all her family and other workers. She then headed straight to the "waltzer" in search of Gavin. A horrible, vile looking gang of teenagers were making a nuisance of themselves on the ride - but there was no sign of Gavin, so she wandered off.

The next thing she knew there was a terrible explosion and crowds of screaming people were running past her. She turned the corner and saw a trailer on fire. There was no-one around and she was sure she could hear banging coming from inside it. Sure enough it was Gavin trapped inside - yelling for help and banging on the side of the caravan. "I've got to get to him" she cried "Gavin Gavin - I'm trying to get to you!" She found a breeze block, picked it up and with all her might, smashed it up against the window. She managed to scramble through it and was able to drag Gavin out to safety. They could hear the sound of the fire-engines getting closer. Gavin whispered to Siobhan "Don't leave me Siobhan, I think I love you" "I know I love you,Gavin" she answered and then she lost conscousness. The ambulance arrived and they were both taken to hospital. Siobhan had inhaled so much smoke and fumes, that her lungs had collapsed.

Gavin spent days, then weeks, at her bedside while she was in a coma. He was so distraught. "Come back, my darling, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I love you so much." Again and again he whispered these words - over and over again. "I'd do anything to bring you back " Suddenly her eyes flickered and tears rolled down her cheeks. The doctors rushed in. She was awake at last. Gavin was so happy. He went back to Adrienne's home.

Four weeks passed by. New caravans were bought, all the damages had been repaired. Streamers and bunting hung everywhere around the village for Siobhan's homecoming on July 20th.

WILL YOU MARRY ME SIOBHAN? read the biggest banner of all. It was tied across two oak trees, from one side of the road to the other.

" Oh Yes, Gavin - I will " cried Siobhan as she climbed out of the taxi and fell into Gavin's waiting arms.

"Welcome home Siobhan" said Adrienne and her husband, Dominic. "The fair now belongs to you and Gavin - it is our wedding present to you both."

On the day after they returned from their honeymoon they laid out their own special bunting.

COLGAIKATS FUNFAIR IS NOW OPEN

They decided on the name as a tribute to both their Grandparents and this was going to be the first day of the rest of their lives.
