The weather chart [left] shows a deep depression positioned over Scandinavia at midnight, 9th. Nov 2007. Strong winds are drawn down over the North Sea pushing the sea into a storm surge 'stack'. High equinoctial tides accentuate the surge which hits the coast seven feet above normal. The Naze NE corner [right] takes the full force of the morning tide on its soft sands and saltmarsh, flooding the lagoons and temporarily covering Stone Point, which lies unprotected to the north of the sea wall.
