The weather chart [left] shows a deep depression positioned over Scandinavia at midnight, 9th. Nov 2007. Strong winds are drawn down over the North Sea pushing the sea into a storm surge 'stack'. High equinoctial tides accentuate the surge which hits the coast seven feet above normal. The Naze NE corner [right] takes the full force of the morning tide on its soft sands and saltmarsh, flooding the lagoons and temporarily covering Stone Point, which lies unprotected to the north of the sea wall.
Grassy sand dunes protectimg the Naze lagoons are no match for the advancing wall of water
Despite a moderation in wind strength, high seas still cascade onto coastal grassland
Erosion of low cliffs stains breaking seas
High tide, green grass... land and sea in conflict
1953 sea defence embankment now in danger
Stone Point salt marsh natural habitat temporarily disappears under water
