Versus - Lucky B - Home - League Match 5
First Division
21st September 2003
The Abbey entertained Lucky B from Alloa to Clarke Street on Sunday. A determined
performance ended in a 3-3 draw.
Starting from the bottom of the league against the 2nd Division runners up from last season, the Abbey were aprehensive of what they were to expect following from last weeks win and Lucky B's indifferent start to season.
Starting line up was altered with Mick McGovern returning to goal, Brian Bonner, Clark Kerr and Bruce Kerr also returning. Barry Wardrop, Gerard McCafferty, Freddie McCulloch and Tom Devereux asked to sit on the bench.
(4-4-2) Mick McGovern
Cameron Hogg Brian Bonner Brian White Andy Whittaker
Colin Eadie Clark Kerr (c) Alan McKenzie Kevin Milne
Neil McColl Bruce Kerr
Subs - Barry Wardrop, Freddie McCulloch, Gerard McCafferty, Tom Devereux, John Creasey.
End to end stuff to begin with, with the Abbey failing to clear a corner within 20 minutes and the visitors striker slotting home.
0-1
30 mins - Nice play by the Abbey leading to the referee awarding a penalty following an attempter foul on Eadie in the box.
Alan McKenzie steps up to confidently thump it home.
1-1
40 mins - another penalty, this time a deliberate foul on the edge of the box following a mix up between the two Lucky B centre halves.
Alan McKenzie sent keeper to his right and the ball went in opposite direction.
2-1
Half Time - 2-1
Resolute defending, some good goalkeeping and bad finishing looked to be the thorn in the Alloa teams side, when a great diagonal ball from Eadie caught the defence flat footed, some neat control by Kits and a superb finish put the Abbey on 'easy street'.
3-1
A nasty injury to Lucky B's forward, stopped the flow of the game and put paid to Abbey's chances of winning.
A mixup in the defence with both centre halves going for the ball and then both leaving it to each other, allowed a straight forward finish for the Lucky B no. 10.
3-2
Finally, as an Abbey player was recovering from injury and physio still leaving pitch, Lucky B were allowed to take a throw in and immediately scored to level match,
3-3
The match ended a little bit untidy with some rash challenges and argumentative refereeing.
