Versus - St. Ninians - Away - Cup Prelim 14th September

St. Ninians are a second division team going well currently and the Abbey knew they would be in a difficult tie.

First Half
The early exchanges were pretty even although to be fair no team looked like opening the scoring.  St. Ninians relying on their no 9 to win the aerial battle, and Abbey resorting to long balls for Scott and Tom to run onto.
Late on in first half - Scott broke free of the defence and chipped to back post for Tom to hit onto post from almost a yard out.

0-0

Second Half
Abbey were beginning to get a grip of the midfield, and were resolute in defence with Barry Wardope making several stops and commanding his area well.  The front line was changed with Kits moving from midfield and Tom making way for Eadie.
The Abbey were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out central.
Kevin stepped up and sent a curling left foot shot round the wall, the keeper did well to parry, but predator Scott was in the right place to hold off a challenge and roll into empty net from tight angle.
Slack marking and horrendous challenges led to the equalising goal 15 minutes later.
No 10 robbed our midfielder of ball and ran unchallenged into box, chipping from left hand side leaving No. 9 and easy finish with the head.
Kevin went off for Bruce with 15 to go and he had an immediate impact on the game.
Andy collected ball in left back position, fed it to Bruce, who played a magnificent outside of the boot pass down the line to Kits, who 'outpaced' the defender (who tried in vain to foul) and cut back for Cammy.  As the ball broke off a defender it appeared to make its own way into the net.
Cosh went on for Kits and made two intercepting headers in the closing flurries.

Final Score

2-1
