Coventry Victor Motor Co. Ltd
HOME
This page is my attempt at piecing together the history of Coventry Victor Motor Co Ltd a now forgotten manufacturing company from what was the UK's "car city".  I was an engineering apprentice with Jaguar Cars Ltd in the City of Coventry during the 1970's and now whilst I no longer work in the industry  - my interest in the city's motoring heritage remains as strong as ever.

Up to now I have just put some info and pics on the Coventry Victor Motor Co - I hope to continue to build up this page with lots more - so if any one has any Coventry Victor pics/stories , or maybe even worked at the Coventry Victor Motor Company Ltd ...  please feel free to send to me at the mail address below.
Coventry Victor-(137 – 139) Cox Street, Hillfields, Coventry.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Coventry Victor began manufacturing motor cycle engines from around 1911, the Cox Street works (now centro bus maintenance garage) concentrated on manufacturing Coventry Victor flat-twin engines for use in other manufacturers motor cycles and in fact one of the earliest powred aeroplanes to fly in the UK used a Coventry Victor engine. Later Coventry Victor made a variety of own design motor cycles produced between 1919-36, including the dirt track/speedway bike.  Coventry Victor built a number of three-wheeler cars that were easily the match for the contemporary Morgan and BSA of the period. Car production at Coventry Victor continued until the late 1930’s.

Coventry Victor Sports Model 1929

The Coventry-Victor three-wheeler entered the market in 1926 and was quite a success. The model range for 1930 included a tourer, a sportsman's coupé, a family model and a sports model.

The picture above shows the Sports - Victor in two shades of cellulose as it was displayed at the Olympia Show in November 1929. This photograph is of the only known surviving Victor - found in a museum in Sweeden of all places !!
The 1932  Luxury Sports  3 wheeler
By 1932 the Coventry Victor model range was given the restyle treatment by C.E.Beauvais and the result was the luxury Sports  3 wheeler, with two tone paint schemes, vee windscreen and radiator. The styling and paintwork gave the car a "grown-up big car look" with flowing lines accentuated by the enclosed front wings which replaced the plain cycle type mud guards of the earlier models. The bodies were built by Avon Coachbuilding Ltd. The engine for the new car was an in-house manufactured 749cc OHV flat twin, later models were offered with enlarged 850cc and 998cc flat twin engines. The Coventry Victor luxury Sports model finally went out of production in 1938.
