Cleethorpes 54

Cleethorpes 54 (FW8990) is an AEC 661T trolleybus with Park Royal 56-seat bodywork. It was built in 1937 to inaugurate trolleybus services in Cleethorpes and remained in service until 1958.

The vehicle languished in a scrap yard for ten years, being rescued in 1968 and, some years later, transferred to Sandtoft Transport Centre.

It passed to its present owner in 1981 whereupon preservation commenced. In the subsequent 20 years the vehicle has been completely reframed, repanelled and reglazed. The seats have been reupholstered and mechanical overhaul has commenced. The funds raised from the sale of this video are paying for the specialist job of electrical overhaul, following which it is expected that 54 will enter service at Sandtoft.
