North Norfolk Knights Volleyball Club
North Norfolk Knights Volleyball Club
History
The club was founded back in 1993 to provide local league volleyball for the North Norfolk area. In its first competitive season the club managed to win the old second division of the Norwich and District League and has subsequently gone on to win the first division on two occasions and the mixed league once.

At the start of the 2002/03 campaign the club merged its playing resources with Norwich Aviva to combat the loss of several players in recent seasons.

2002/03 Season
During season 2002/03 the club, for the first time in its history, managed to win both the Norwich & District mens and mixed leagues. Members of the club played in the successful Aviva team which won the UK & Ireland Corporate Games title and were runners-up in the World Corporate games held in Seville in October 2002. A picture of team members at the opening ceremony is shown below.

2003/04 Season
Season 2003/04 will remembered by many in the club as the year of finishing second with both the mens and mixed teams finishing in the runners-up spots in the Norwich and District League. This can be regarded as a disappointment following the previous season but considering the significant change of personnel in both teams the is considerable hope for next season as the new players continue to gel into the team.

Several of the club members played for the Norwich Aviva team which came a creditable second (no shocks there!) in their first season in the Eastern Regional League behind a strong Ipswich side who managed to go through the season undefeated.

During the summer the team travelled to Newcastle to play in the UK and Ireland Corporate Games finishing (you guessed it) second. Members of the club also played in the Langanese Tournament in Hamburg with two of our players finsihing in the second place team. Just to break the sequence of seconds we travelled to Thessaloniki in November and finished third in the World Corporate Games.

The team are looking to play in Summer tournaments in both the UK and overseas and any tournament hosts looking for teams are encouraged to contact us.

Training Times and Contact Details
During the season the club trains at the Cromer High School Sports Hall on Sundays from 3pm - 5pm. During the summer training is more erratic as the team will play on the beach or on grass if the weather is suitable and members of the club will be away playing in tournaments. It is recommended that you make contact with us prior to attending a training session via e-mail at antgrier@aol.com - please ensure you leave your contact details so that we can get back in touch with you!

For more experienced players we would also recommend the Nowich training sessions for the Eastern Regional team which are held at the Norwich High School for Girls on Thursdays from 8pm - 11pm. These sessions have finished for the season and British Summer permitting will be replaced by outdoor sessions to be held at the Norwich Union facility at Pinebanks, Norwich.

The club is looking to recruit additonal players for the summer and the 2004/05 season, especially ladies with a view to improving the depth and quality of our squad. We always welcome people new to the sport and would encourage anyone seeking a fun, competitve way of keeping fit to join us for a game.

We would also encourage contact from other clubs to arrange friendly matches and make us aware of any tournaments in your region.
