LOTR - Bag End Inn: Shire

Area of about 18,000 square miles in Eriador between the Baranduin and the Far Downs. In TA 1601 it was ceded by King Argeleb II of Arthedain to the Hobbits. By 1630 most Hobbits in Middle-earth lived in the Shire, which they divided into four Farthings. Because of over-population, the Oldbucks of the marish crossed the Brandywine in 2340 and settled in Buckland. Bree was founded in the second Age, sometime before the foundation of Arnor in 3320, but its Hobbits did not settle there until about TA 1300. The Shire was also called the Four Farthings. The genuine Hobbitish name was Suza.
