Pass over the Ephel Duath just north of Minas Morgul, guarded by the Tower of Cirith Ungol. This pass was used in TA 2000 by the Nazgul when they issued forth from Mordor to besiege Mina Ithil, and also by Frodo during the Quest to get to Mordor. Although well-guarded, it was an easier route to travel undetected than was the main pass behind Minas Ithil. Cirith Ungol was actually only the road and cleft east of Shelob`s Lair, but in common usage the term referred to the entire path from Imlad Morgul to the Morgai. Also called the High Pass by Sam Gamgee.
