Billin and Autumn's review of the event held on 14th May 2005

We were arrived by car at about 10.45am, and we were greeted by a large sign advertising the event, and already you could see people arriving. Most of them were well and truly in the spirit of the day, by dressing up as hobbits, elves, ringwraiths etc. and I dressed up as an elf, Billin and her daughter as hobbits, my husband as Sam and my 5 year old son dressed as Legolas. Almost immediately, Billin was asked by a gentleman if he could take her picture (Billin bravely wore some pointy hobbit ears), and soon after the Birmingham Mail wanted her picture too!!! (I am still waiting for it to appear in the paper – watch this space –Birmingham Mail/Post ). We almost felt famous!!! The Tolkien society were handing out leaflets, and that was our job too, to hand out our flyers for our website straight away (as Billin said to me - ‘ Well work must go on!!').

The large field, dubbed ‘the party field’ was full of tents and stalls, some of which included, medieval themes, games workshop, elvish lessons, jewellery, books and games, plants, poetry tent, stalls selling all sorts of foods (chocolate was my favourite) and the less traditional ice cream and burger vans. We had a carpenter who was making a seat out of a log (but we got no final picture on that I am afraid – please email me if you took a photo of it!!). Later we had Saxon re-enactments of fighting, which proved very popular, archery events and we also go to visit Sarehole mill and museum. The only regret we have is that, this time we did not get to follow the Tolkien Trail or visit Moseley Bog, which we will have to save for next year, but we have been told that they are definitely worth visiting.
