Dupuytren's Contracture
This Page is created in order to help fellow sufferers of Dupuytren's Contracture or disease.
I travelled to Paris on Monday 16th december 2002 for an appointment with Dr. J.L Lermusiaux, was with him for no more than thirty minutes. He performed needle fasciectomy on my little finger, and the result is a lovely, straight digit,no surgery, no scarring and a cost of sixty euro.
He has given me a form to get this cost back from the nhs, watch this space.
All Dupuytren's contracture sufferers should know about needle fasciectomy before they decide on surgery.
Non surgical treatment has to be the way forward.
Check out the web sites linked below for more information,I will add more links as I find
 them.

LATEST:
On the 10th January I spoke to my local primary care trust office at the suggestion of my doctor, who was very impressed with my straight digit, this is what I was told.
When we travel in the EU we should take with us a form E 111, this entitles us to treatment should we fall ill and is paid for by the NHS. Clearly this dose not cover my case but there is a form E112 which I should have taken to the clinic in Paris and the NHS would have paid for the treatment. Here is the catch, I would have had to have a consultant in England recommend the non surgical treatment in Paris, somehow I don't think that would have happened. When I need treatment on my other hand I will be aware of the procedure and able to argue my case very stongly.
I'm trying to think of ways to make fellow sufferers aware of these facts, our local doctors are blissfully unaware and can only refer us to a surgeon.
I'll keep you posted.

Recent News:

I Returned to Paris on 15th december 2003 for more treatment. The DC in my right little finger is very aggresive and is now starting to affect the middle finger as you will see on this photo taken in august.
Dr. Lermmusiaux worked his magic, going in once on the middle and twice on the pinky. My hand is looking like a pin cushion at the moment but is quite straight again, it looks like I'll have to have regular treatment. He has prescribed Colchicine tablets for 12 months to see if that stops the progress of this very persistant condition.
Nice weekend in Paris, stayed down in the Latin quarter and had a good time, listened to some jazz and looked at the art in the D'Orsay. At least DC is giving me some culture!
