A READER'S COMMENTS ON THE LATEST ISSUE (No. 25)

Dear Team

Congratulations on a very good Currents Accounts 25. For me the best Bank Street Writers contribution came from Phil Smith whose ‘He Should Talk’ sums up Lowry’s effect on those who knew the faces and places he painted. Of the other UK contributors, David McVey’s short story was enjoyable and the story within a story worked well. Mike Gwynne’s ‘Silver Anniversary’ was for me the better of his two offerings, an honest but bleak slice through the schmaltz. Daniel Healey’s ‘A Nature poem’ was enjoyably stark and spare. Ian Gray’s ‘No Love For Lizzie Bolden’ was probably the best of the UK poems.

I think this time the American contributions were the best in the magazine: Suzanne Richardson Harvey in particular stood out as a true talent, her work exhibiting potent imagery, movement and a professional, finished tone that is not easy to achieve.

A much fuller writeup of Current Accounts 25 can be found on my blog at fjameshartnell.blogspot, com

Best wishes

James Hartnell
