Our school is a member of the International Plum Blossom Federation, a worldwide federation of over 150 martial arts studios. We teach and practice under the support and guidance of Grandmaster Doc Fai Wong, president of the federation. Grandmaster is a fifth generation grandmaster, one of the highest-ranking Choy Li Fut Kung Fu masters in the world. He is also a Second-Generation Grandmaster of Yang style Tai Chi Chuan.
Choy Li Fut is the name of the Kung Fu system we teach. The system combines the footwork of the Northern Chinese style with southern-style hand techniques. Our style emphasizes relaxed internal power over stiff, muscular force. Done at full speed, CLF forms provide an excellent cardiovascular work out while also improving strength and flexibility. CLF includes long and short range punches, kicks, sweeps, take downs, lethal pressure point attacks, joint locks and grappling. CLF also includes training with 52 types of traditional Chinese weapons, including short weapons like the broadsword, long weapons like the staff or spear, flexible weapons like the chain whip and three sectional staff, and twin weapons like the double hook swords.
Tai Chi Chuan’s moving meditation forms are slow and relaxed. It relies on ‘four ounces of strength against a ton of force’, in which an opponent’ own strength is used against them, while the Tai Chi practitioner uses little energy. The focus is on increasing circulation, strengthening bones, loosening the joints and protecting against osteoporosis & arthritis. Daily practice helps prevent stress-related diseases, such as high blood pressure, digestive problems & heart disease. Chi Kung is the practice of cultivating internal energy called chi. The three thousand-year-old exercises of Chi-kung are designed to promote internal energy through breathing and meditation. It helps students calm the mind, relax the body and lower blood pressure.
