The Wessex Regionalists - history

The Wessex Regionalist Party was founded in 1974 by Alexander Thynne, later Lord Bath. We have fielded candidates in most of the elections since then.

The Wessex Regionalists - policies

Policies of the Wessex Regionalist Party are always designed to further the principles and aims of the Charter below.

THE CHARTER OF THE WESSEX REGIONALIST PARTY
(adopted 19 June 1999, with amendments to 28 October 2001)

The Wessex Regionalist Party contracts with the people of Wessex to strive for and achieve six fundamental aims and principles -

IDENTITY

To promote the cultural and economic identity of Wessex.

DEMOCRACY

To bring into existence devolved, direct democracy in order to give the people of Wessex maximum control over their own lives.

QUALITY

To optimise the quality of life for everyone residing, working in or visiting the region.

ENVIRONMENT

To minimise the adverse impact of human activity on the environment.

THE WORLD

To contribute to the creation of a sustainable and equitable global economy in which the health, security and liberty of all is paramount, regardless of race or creed.

ENJOYMENT

To make the whole process of politics relevant and enjoyable.

The Wessex Regionalists are committed to the most appropriate degree of self determination for Wessex within the context of a new England of regions. We are working closely with the Wessex Constitutional Convention in the setting up of an assembly/parliament and fully support the Wessex Society in its aim of promoting the history, culture and dialect of Wessex.
