All About Academic Angels
As a mature student, I am well aware of the financial and subsequent medical problems that can meet a student struggling to study in the face of adversity in England. A full student loan of less than £4000 barely covers rent, so most of us go out to work to cover food, bills, books and clothes, there is rarely anything left for a social life. This approach has obliterated what to many a degree should be about, immersing yourself with great passion into your study. Now, finding the time to do the basic set work is difficult alone.
I have tried cyberbegging to alleviate the symptoms of lack of sleep, insomnia and subsequent depression brought about by this study routine. Unfortunately, my efforts and honesty met with some hostility, as I imagine beggars on the street have to face.
I abandoned this idea, in favour of a more community and networked charity concept.
I will be introducing a site at www.danu.org which will invite those in severe financial need, usually untraditional students, to plead their cases, and offer varied entertainment 'cybercabaret' to our audience. This in turn will hopefully reap charitable donations. Donators will be able to select the individual they wish to support, so the students will have to compete for attention. Ideas will be given to help the students in their self promotion.
