Pride of Neilston
Neilston Pipe Band
Neilston & District Pipe Band have been established in the the South West of Scotland as members of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association for 27 years.
During this time they have become one of the most widely travelled bands, not only in Scotland but worldwide, In 21 years they have represented Scotland in more than 70 International Festivals of folk music and dance. Their trips have taken them to most countries in East and Western Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, the Far East and Asia.  
The band consists of typically of 12 pipers, 4 side drummers, two tenor drummers, one bass drummer and a drum major. The group is usually joined by a troupe of Scottish Traditional Highland/Country Dancers.
The uniforms worn by the musicians are traditionally Scottish in the 'MacKenzie' tartan.


Finlay began learning the Highland bagpipes at the age of ten from his father, Pipe Major Iain Macdonald of the Neilston Pipe Band, and then from Duncan Johnstone and Pipe Major Angus MacDonald.
As one of the first students on the BA Scottish Music course at the RSAMD he studied Highland Bagpipes with Allan MacDonald of Glenuig and Traditional Flute with Dougie Pincock of the Battlefield Band. In his final year at the Academy he specialised in Composition and Performance, graduating in 1999.
He has played with top bands Deaf Shepherd, Old Blind Dogs (with whom he has toured in North America) and the Battlefield Band (with whom he has toured in Europe). In 2000 he released his self-titled solo album.

His playing can also be heard on various other soundtracks including the 'Scottish Moods' album, Robert Duvall's film 'The Cup' and Bruce MacGregor's recently released CD '101 Reasons to do Nothing'.
