Started off at 8.30am for a 2½ Hour journey to Weybourne North Norfolk.
On arrival it was descending from the heavens with sheets of rain, But not to be deterred we started getting our base established and kit positioned ready for the catch.
Clipped and flapper rigs prepared, days before, we were ready for the action.
Well the elements got the better, weights were covered in the shingle or washed back onto the shore. We decided to have a break, hoping things would ease after high tide.
The forecast was a North Wind 8, Clearing. High Tide 2.30pm. What we got was a North Wind 20/25 in our faces and then to find out this was not going to give up but increase.
Undaunted we carried on as we proposed to fish into darkness with clearing up at approx 9pm.
The beach is made up of shingle with us standing at the top of a ridge, it then falls steeply 12 to 15 feet then slowly drops for another 50 to 75 yds to another ridge. If your cast was just over the ridge it got buried, if short it got washed back up to the shore.
4.30pm with darkness setting in we decided enough was enough as the heavens decided to have fun with us, with wind and rain increasing we decided to clear up. We eventually loaded the car, then started the engine to get that heater going. Looking at each other we started to laugh out loudly then shouted "We must be F****** Mad".
Down to the Weybourne local pub for that pint. On entering
"What have you caught lads" came the shouts,
"One big bag of experience" I replied.
That's when the crack started with stories of others fishing adventures, then off on that 2½ Hour journey back home.
Well I'm looking forward to my next fishing adventure.
