Dear Friends

It is that time of year again, when we are caught up in a mad rush of parties and presents, calling to see friends and relatives.  Yes it is Christmas once again.  Although there are always a few sad individuals who bemoan what has become of Christmas, I still think that it is a great time of year when we can have a lot of laughs and a lot of good clean fun.

The reason why it is so special is simple.  We are remembering God’s greatest gift to us all in His Son, Jesus.  Jesus who was born in poverty, as one of us, to be our saviour and to bring us new life through His death and resurrection.  Surely that is a great reason to be happy at Christmas time.  We certainly have much to thank God for in this the greatest gift of all.

Make the most of Christmas this year.  Enjoy the parties and the presents.  Above all enjoy God’s gift of Jesus.

Your friend and Rector

Rev. David Morrow
(12 Rectory Road, Tobermore, BT45 5QP, Tel. 02879628823)

Every Christmas

Every Christmas, may you have some new love of lovely things,
And some new forgetfulness of the teasing things,
And some higher pride in the praising things,
And some sweeter peace from the hurrying things,
And some close fence from the worrying things,
And longer stay of time when you are happy,
And lighter flight of days that are unkind.

Kilcronaghan & Ballynascreen Sunday Schools

May I on behalf of the above, thank everyone, parishioners and friends, who donated shoeboxes or money to this years effort.  The total number of boxes amounted to 220 and this was indeed a great increase on last years total.  The total number of shoeboxes sent out from Coleraine, which included out total, exceeded 6880, and these shoeboxes are already on their way to Serbia.  Thanks again everyone for your generosity.  Let’s already plan for next year and begin to knit hats, scarves, gloves etc. or even collect wool; this too is very useful.

Please remember the Sunday School Christmas Party on Friday 20th December, in the Parish Hall at 6:30 pm, and plan to attend and join in the fun and games.  Do also plan to attend the prize giving services in each of our Churches on Sunday 22nd December; the children take part in this very special service and learn about the true meaning of Christmas, the coming of Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God with us.

Gospel Rally

On Sunday 26th January at 6:30 pm we are joining with the local Presbyterian and Baptist congregations to hold a Gospel Rally in Kilcronaghan Parish Church.  The preacher is the Rev. Chris Pollock, the Rector of Derryvolgie Parish in Lisburn.  The music will be led by our music group.  Do plan to attend and to bring others with you, for what should be a special evening.

Baptism Policy

After discussing the matter with the Select Vestries of our two Churches, the Rector has prepared a Baptismal Policy which will apply to all parents seeking the Baptism of their child.

1.    The parents of the child, will be required to attend Church for a period of 4 weeks prior to the date of baptism.

2.    At least 4 weeks notice must be given before the baptism can take place.

3.    Baptism application forms can be obtained from the Churchwardens or Rector at Church on any Sunday, and returned to them.  The Rector then will contact the parents to arrange a time to meet and discuss the baptism.

4.    Parents must attend the preparation class with the Rector and be happy to make the promises in the service.  It is to be remembered that these promises should be made solemnly before God.

5.    As far as is possible, the baptism should take place at morning worship.  “Private” baptisms will only be considered under special circumstances, and these will usually take place on Sunday afternoons.

6.    Parents should consider making a gift to the Church as a thank-offering.  No fee is required for the Rector.

7.    Parents should endeavour to live up to their promises and try to bring up the child to have a personal faith in Jesus Christ and encourage them to come to Sunday School, Church and later on to Confirmation.  The Parish also has a responsibility in this, and to this end we provide Sunday School, Youth Fellowship, GFS, GB and BB for the spiritual, physical and emotional development of the child.

Christmas Dinner

We had a lovely time together at the Annual Christmas Dinner.  The thanks of all who attended are given to those who set up the hall and to Margaret and her team who catered for our needs so well.  Our thanks are also given to the Monkstown Praise Band for their musical entertainment.

Curtis Magee Concert

As part of their fund-raising for the trip to Argentina, the Rector and Peter Jones are organising on 13th February at 8 pm a concert in the Parish Hall with Curtis Magee, his Country and Gospel Roadshow.  Also appearing will be Elaine Wood and Gary Wilson.  Tickets are £5.  Do plan to attend for what should be a special evening and support the Rector and Peter.

BB Play

The Boys Brigade will be hosting their annual Play by the Glarryford Young Farmers on Friday 31st January in the McKinney Hall.  Do support them in this fund raising venture.

Mothers Union

Thank you for your support for the Moldovia Appeal.  There is quite an amount of stuff waiting to go out with the next scheduled delivery.  This will now be in the New Year, so there’s still an opportunity to contribute.  Please leave any items in the Clarke Room, and they will be passed on to Barbara tanner after Christmas.

Our Christmas dinner this year will be on THURSDAY 19th Dec.  We hope to meet at car park 7.00p.m. (NB: if this time changes it will be announced in church).   Remember to bring a small wrapped gift to the value of £1.  If anyone would like to go to the dinner in TBF Thompson’s, please contact Margaret Green or Heather Wallace before Sunday 14th December.
