One of the queries from students is about what films can be covered. To be quite pedantic it's all films registered at the Board of Trade as British and released bewteen 1st January 1950 and 31st Decemeber 1969. But that means you have to miss out on two of the best Ealing films - Passport to Pinlico amd Kind Hearts and Coronets of 1949 - not to mention the film that usually tops the 'best of' lists' The Third Man. At the other end you miss out on one of the great 60s films, Performance (made in 1968 but held back for release until 1970 because of producers concern about its shock value), and the amusing adaptation of Joe Orton's Entertaining Mr Sloane (a sort of Carry On Victim), Joseph Losey's The Go Between, John Schlesinger's Sunday Bloody Sunday and, of course A Clockwork Orange of 1971- and as now we can easily watch that it really is a shame to forego that.
My advice is that for selecting your TMA3 film keep strictly to the time parameters, but for comparisons you can go back or forward a year - but I would be worried if you go back to Brief Encounter 1945 even if you are discussing David Lean as an auteur, or Get Carter 1973 if you are discussing crime genre. And be very careful with Kubrick!
