Saving
The Lives of Animals
There
are many ways in which you can help our ponies, and adopting/sponsoring
one of them will give you great pleasure as well as saving the life of
your chosen pony. Many of the ponies which we receive have lived such
dreadful lives that they are not suitable for re-homing, often because
they are too old or too ill. They will spend the rest of their days here
in the peace of the North Wales countryside. The cost of adopting a pony
is very small indeed especially when you consider that your money will
provide for its care throughout the year. If you would like to adopt one
of our ponies please let us know, either by emailing
us, or telephoning 01286 880808, or filling in our the Sponsor
Form Below:
Abby: Abby
came to us for retirement after she proved to be too dangerous to ride.(she
rears up on her hind legs) She is very much the leader of the pack! also
is without doubt the greediest of all our rescued horses! When she arrived
we were told she had a fear of men wearing leather jackets and as she
had been through the hands of several dealers before being sold to her
last owners, we aseume this must be the cause of her dislike. However
she is very settled now and shows no fear at all of anyone.Abby is approximately
11 years old.
Cariad:
This little grey welsh pony is a real bossy boots and is always
looking for ways out of her field to cause mischief. Her partner in crime
is Swift a young pony with whom she has shared a home for the past 10
years. neither have been ridden.
Callie: This
lovely dark bay mare has had a loving home but her owner could no longer
afford to keep her and could not bear to think of her coming to an untiimely
end after giving years of pleasure as a riding horse.Callie is now well
into her 30's, and a grand old lady.
Noddy:
This dear little chap is our oldest pony, he has been at Freshfields
since he was 8 years old.He is now in his late 30's. Noddy has been born
with malformed legs and was saved from slaughter at the age of 5 months,
he was then kept as a pet until his stallion behaviour caused his owner
to pass him on to us.Once gelded he did obviously calm down, but I have
many memories of being chased across fields by him and how he terrified
many of the Freshfields staff at that time. He is now everyones favourite
and has become a very sweet natured old man.
Louis:
a big lanky chestnut gelding who was abandoned by his owner,
who left him in livery stables without paying his bill. All attempts to
contact her failed, and eventually, after several months, we aquired him.
He was emaciated when he arrived and very lame.He has gained weight now
and with proper care, he rarely suffers from lameness. He does however
have a tendency to lose weight so his feed schedule has to be carefully
monitored. His age is around 8 years.
Swift:
Loves
people more than other horses although he is often seen with his pal Cariad,
Another escape artiste, he is always looking for people who might provide
him with juicy titbits! He is a great favourite of the staff here. Both
Swift and Cariad were residents at the farm before Freshfields took over
and we agreed they could stay here for life.
Freddie:
this chestnut pony
has had several homes and because he will not stay in a field on his own,
he is covered in scars from collisions with motor vehicles. He was due
to be shot wehen we heard about him and he has lived with us for a few
years, we have no problems with him as he always has the company he so
needed.
We
are pleased to welcome you at Freshfields Wales, where you can see all
of our animals between the hours of 10am -12noon (7 days a week) other
times by appointment only. (Because we also need to set aside time for
caring for the animals).
