The Shinsokai is a small non profit group of practitioners who train under the guidance of Richard Barrett Sensei. The name Shinsokai translates as ‘a group of people searching for the truth with their hands’.
The Shinsokai aim to mirror the way training is conducted at the Jundokan Dojo in Okinawa. Training is done on a very personal and informal basis with little emphasis on sport karate or grades. There are no large militaristic training sessions and students are encouraged to follow the twin path of bun bu ryo do - physical training balanced with study. This means a student must research their martial art and aim to gain an understanding of the history, strategies and principles, as well as a good level of physical technique.
Training takes place at a number of locations in Essex England.
