The following pictures are a photographic record of the construction of the Leading Edge Fuel Tank modification that I have produced. As I progress I will add more photographs. Any comments should be send to - Bob Stephens - Click Here One of the main reasons that I decided to design a leading edge tank was because I was concerned about the weight and balance of the aircraft when using the parcel shelf for baggage (see my article Weight Where? (The Fuel Versus Baggage Dilemma) (Zodiac News Edition 6, Jan 97)). If one wishes to do any touring in the aircraft, being able to carry two people, baggage and a reasonable amount of fuel, then as I see it the only sensible option is to restrict the amount of baggage put on the parcel shelf, and put the heavier items in the wing locker. After 250 hrs flying this is also what Alan Cozens has also concluded (see his articles Zodiac 601 HD - The 250 Hour Report on G-BVAC (Zodiac News Edition 11, Apr 98) and My Zodiac 601HD as a touring aircraft (Zodiac News Edition 6, Jan 97) The modification has been approved by the Popular Flying Association subject to my inspector's approval when complete and successful flight testing - therefore it will be a few years before I have my set up ready for general distribution. |
