1968
TYRANNOSAURUS REX achieve minor chart placings with ‘Debora‘ and ‘One Inch Rock‘.

1969
DAVID BOWIE releases ‘Space Oddity’ and reaches No.5, then vanishes from the singles chart for 3 years.

1970
The newly abbreviated T.REX reach No.2 with ‘Ride A White Swan’.

1971
T.REX hit the top spot with ‘Hot Love’ and ‘Get It On’.  They are soon followed to No.1 by SLADE with ‘Coz I Luv You’.  Other artists making their first chart appearances include SWEET and BAY CITY ROLLERS.

1972
ROXY MUSIC, MOTT THE HOOPLE, WIZZARD, ALICE COOPER and GARY GLITTER all enjoy their first chart singles successes.  DAVID BOWIE returns after a long absence.
No.1 glam hits include ‘Metal Guru’ and ‘Telegram Sam’ by T.REX, ’School’s Out’ by ALICE COOPER, ‘Take Me Bak Ome’ and ’Mama Weer All Crazee Now’ by SLADE, and ‘Son Of My Father’ by CHICORY TIP.  T.REX are the artist with the most weeks on the chart for 1972.

SLADE become the first act ever to enter the British charts at No.1 – 3 times! – with ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’, ‘Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me’ and 'Merry Xmas Everybody'.  Further glam No.1 hits include ‘I‘m The Leader Of The Gang‘ and ‘I Love You Love Me Love‘ by GARY GLITTER, ‘Can The Can’ by SUZI QUATRO, ‘See My Baby Jive’ and ‘Angel Fingers’ by WIZZARD, and ‘Blockbuster‘ by SWEET.  DAVID BOWIE is the artist with the most weeks on the chart for 1973.
Artists to make their first UK chart appearances include MUD, SUZI QUATRO, BRYAN FERRY, DAVID ESSEX and ALVIN STARDUST.
T.REX make their final top 10 appearances.
The charts bid adios to CHICORY TIP, who split soon after.
LOU REED makes his only UK chart appearance with ‘Walk On The Wild Side’.
ENO leaves ROXY MUSIC, BOWIE splits THE SPIDERS FROM MARS.

Welcome to the charts SPARKS, COCKNEY REBEL, QUEEN, KENNY, HELLO, THE GLITTER BAND, ARROWS, FOX, SAILOR, BROWNSVILLE STATION and farewell to WIZZARD.  BAY CITY ROLLERS bounce back.
Glam hits to reach No.1 include ‘Jealous Mind’ by ALVIN STARDUST, ‘Tiger Feet’ and ‘Lonely This Christmas’ by MUD, ‘Always Yours’ by GARY GLITTER and ‘Devil Gate Drive‘ by SUZI QUATRO, as well as ‘Waterloo’ by ABBA, ‘Sugar Baby Love’ by THE RUBETTES and ‘Gonna Make You A Star’ by DAVID ESSEX.
LULU hits the charts with BOWIE’s ‘The Man Who Sold The World’.
Ian Hunter leaves MOTT THE HOOPLE.
Debut albums appear from US glam acts JOBRIATH, KISS and ANGEL, none of which set any charts alight.

1975
CHRIS SPEDDING finds one off chart success, as does IAN HUNTER.  Belated chart debut from SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND and DAVID BOWIE ‘s ‘Space Oddity’ belatedly hits the top of the charts.  No. 1 hits by other glam artists now getting thinner on the ground, but STEVE HARLEY ditches his original COCKNEY REBEL and manages the job with ‘Make Me Smile (Come Up & See Me)’.  QUEEN make history with ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, currently the second biggest selling single of all time, and for launching pop videos on the world.  Other N0.1’s come from BAY CITY ROLLERS, DAVID ESSEX and PILOT.  Final chart appearances from KENNY.  MUD are the artist with the most weeks on the chart for 1975.
SWEET break away from Chinn/Chapman, initially successfully with ‘Fox On The Run’ hitting No.2.
ROXY MUSIC ‘retire’.

1976
Welcome to the charts SLIK, goodbye to THE GLITTER BAND.
No real glam No. 1’s, although SLIK, SHOWADDYWADDY and ELTON JOHN all make it.
‘I love to boogie’ becomes the last top 20 entry for T.REX.

1977
MR. BIG finally hit the charts.

1978
SWEET have their final top 10 hit with ‘Love Is Like Oxygen’.

1979
BLONDIE hit the top spot with ‘Heart Of Glass’ and ‘Sunday Girl’.  Look out, here come RACEY...
SPARKS return to the top 10 after a four year absence.  ROXY MUSIC reform and return to the charts.

1980
ADAM ANT puts on some make up and rules the charts for the next few years.

1981
‘Jealous Guy’ becomes ROXY MUSIC’s only No.1 hit.  
SLADE hit the top 10 for the first time in 6 years with ‘We’ll bring the house down’.

1982
ROXY MUSIC split, again.

1983
SLADE reach No.2 with ‘My Oh My’.

1984
SLADE’s final top 10 hit is ‘Run Runaway’.  GARY GLITTER returns to the top 10 for the first time in 9 years with ‘Another Rock & Roll Christmas’.

1985

1986
IGGY POP finally reaches the charts for the first time with ‘Real Wild Child’.

1987

ALICE COOPER returns to the charts after a 15 year gap with ‘Poison’.
