JAPAN
The Japanese took the British Glam movement to their hearts and charts, but failed to produce any glam artists of their own with any international crossover potential, excepting possibly THE SADISTIC MIKA BAND, who toured the UK at the height of the glam rock era as the support act to ROXY MUSIC.
Given the masssive success of the glam movement in Japan I'm sure there must have been some more home grown Japanese glam acts and would appreciate any information regarding these.
CANADA
Probably Canada's best known glam act nowadays were SWEENEY TODD, more notable for having included in their line-ups both Nick Gilder and Bryan Adams than for any chart success. Their best known song was 'Roxy Roller', which was also recorded by Suzi Quatro.
Several Canadian acts had hits at home with covers of British glam hits, including TINKER'S MOON who covered 'Shang-A-Lang' and BOND with 'Dancin' On A Saturday Night'
SOUTH AFRICA
JOHN KONGOS scored 2 top 5 UK hits with 'He's Gonna Step On You Again' and 'Tokoloshe Man' in 1971. While not particularly a glam act himself, he has been sited as having been a major influence on Gary Glitter.
Several female South African singers had big hits in their homeland with covers of Bonnie St. Claire songs, MARIA with 'Clap Your Hands And Stamp Your Feet' and JESSICA JONES with 'Waikiki Man'.
Also worthy of mention are RABBITT (not to be confused with the Australian RABBIT) who were one of South Africa's biggest rock acts in the mid/late 70's, and from whom Duncan Faure went on to join a later line-up of the BAY CITY ROLLERS. I haven't heard their music, though from what I can gather their music and image was more rock than glam.
BOBBIE McGEE was also South African, but since she was british-based for all of her glam rock releases she is dealt with on the Glam Girls page.
Now does anyone have any information on glam acts from, say, Mexico or Brazil (countries where British glam seems to have at least had plenty of releases), or anywhere else?
