The "Titanic" Flagship of the White Star Line sank on its maiden voyage to New York 14-15 April 1912 after hitting an iceberg. More than 1,500 lives were lost including Commander Smith
This statue is made of bronze 7'6" high on a plinth of Cornish granite.
The sculpter was Lady Kathleen Scott (1876-1947) widow of Captain Robert Falcon Scott C.Y.O. R.N. (Scott of the Antartic)
The formal unveiling of the statue, which took place on 29th July. 1914. Was by Commander Smiths Daughter in the pressence ofmany distinguished guests including the sculpter Lady Scott
