A Sampler.
From my book 'How one grows in Rhymes and Prose'
Impatience
Four years old, I just can’t wait
For school to start, I won’t be late
Now at last I know my fate
I will be a Pupil
Ten years old, I just can’t wait
To start big school, it will be great
They are going to educate
I will be a Scholar
I’m 15 now, can’t wait to go
To face the world with all I know
I’ll get a job and earn some dough
I will be a Worker
18 now, I am a man
Can’t wait to find a nice woman
To share my life as best she can
I will be a Lover
At 20 now and in my prime
Can’t wait until it’s Wedding time
A band of Gold will make her mine
I will be a Husband
Now that I’ve reached 23
Can’t wait to start a family
Babies given to her from me
I will be a Father
In my 30‘s, Kids at schools
Can’t wait for them to learn the rules
I just hope they won’t be fools
I’ll be an Example
40‘s now, Kids both grown
I hope they’ve learned from what I’ve shown
Can’t wait for them to have their own
I will be a Granddad
50 is not far away
Then 60, 70, Oh I say
Can’t wait to finish work one day
I will be Retired
All good things come to an end
Death awaits us all my friend
I can’t wait to buck that trend
I want to be Immortal

What this is about!
This is my second book, following on from ‘Simpler Then’ - ‘From a Tot to a Teen in 1960‘s Oxfordshire’. My account and views of the 60‘s. That contained a few poems, which are also
duplicated in this. This book however is solely verse. There are Sonnets, Triolets, Limericks, Blank Verse and Couplets (Loads of them!) Some are meant to be funny, some are serious. Some were designed to be serious, but can be seen as funny or ironic. But all are based on true stories. I say based, because a number of things are changed. It’s called Poetic Licence! I have also added a few Skipping Rhymes, versions of Nursery Rhymes and other games, and I warn you,
some are rude (but not vulgar). To round it off, I have added a bit of philosophy.
It tracks the stages of life, and is designed to pretty much reflect most peoples experiences. I have had a lot of help from some Ladies, who answered my distress call. Namely Deb Rose, Lorna Martin, Helen de ste Croix and Sara Gentry. Their works, from a Girls perspective, are also included.
I have tried to make it suitable for about 12 years old and upwards and some poems are suitable for all age groups. That said, it will have some slightly rude references, a few mild swear
words (no strong ones I promise), innuendoes and thinly veiled euphemisms.
For instance: Sex and associated activities like, Masturbation, Virginity (both losing and protecting) and Menstrual Problems are all as much a part of growing up as fighting and playing with toys. It would be very wrong of me not to include them just because some people may be offended. So read this with an open mind. We were all children once. It may have been a long time ago for some of us, but they don’t really change. Do they?
