Tyson X Zena
DOB 28/12/93 - 08/09/02
Jess was bred by Jenny Wills, in Ballarat, Australia.
Having met and liked several Rottweiler X Dobermann's, I made the trip from South Gippsland, where I lived, to Ballarat, to look at a litter of 10 week old bitches. Jenny had been let down by people who had initially wanted pups, and she still had 5 of the 8 in the litter.
I immediately spotted the pup I wanted, beautifully marked, mahogany tan, with a gorgeous face, but when I went back down the lane to get my bag, I found I was being followed by a funny little character with excessive straw coloured markings and fly-away ears. Guess who came home with me?
From that day, Jess was always by my side, and the ugly duckling definitely became a swan.
I moved to Europe when she was just 9 months, and she visited Venice, Amsterdam, Paris, she's even come skiing in the Alps (actually, I skied, she ran). Shops, restaurants, hotels - no problem, everywhere's so dog friendly, it's a great place to live if you're a dog (pretty good if you're human, too!).
Jess was super smart, I hardly had to teach her anything, she seemed to know what I wanted her to do. As a result she won several prizes in agility and obedience, including
- RAF Bruggen Best Agility in Show and Intermediate Obedience Winner
- Rhine Army Summer Show Agility Champion
- Bristol Park Rangers Obedience Champion
She earned my whole family's eternal gratitude when she drove off a drunk who attempted to grab me when I was walking her in the woods near my home, so she was forgiven when she jumped up and snapped my front tooth off not too long afterwards- she was very pleased to see me! As it happened, that was a blessing in disguise, as it set me on the road to my current career in dentistry .
Jess held her Gold Canine Good Citizen award, and used to visit the Shirehampton Nursing Home as a registered therapy dog.
Jess was diagnosed with spondylitis in 1998, and lived a full life, with the help of medication, until September, 2002.
She was greatly loved, she is deeply missed.
