They Came to a City
by J.P. Priestley
18th, 19th , 20th November 2004
As dawn is about to break, the play's characters - who represent every stratum of society - look over a wall to a strange city whose gate is shut against them. At daybreak they are admitted and by the end of the day some of them find it to be the ideal that earth has never achieved. In order that everyone may know of this perfection, two of them make the sacrafice of leaving the city and returning to their sinful world.

I felt I must write to say how much my friend Bernice Greenslade and I enjoyed last nights performance.
It was all due to Ann Carpenter that we were able to attend, as she ferried us there and back in her car - neither Bernice or I having use of a car ourselves.  So, many thanks to Ann.

The players were so well cast, and it would be difficult to pick out individuals, as they all gave an excellent performance.  Pip Potter , I think, must have been a member of the English aristocracy in earlier life - he was the perfect English upperclass gentleman.
The whole production gave us great pleasure - and a tribute to Di`s direction

We look forward to the pantomine  Treasure Island in March.
Best wishes,

Muriel Carter
