Showcase readings of the poems shortlisted in this year’s competition and you choose your favourite.
‘Poem in the Pub’ prizes awarded to poems winning the audience vote.
Also- Geoffrey Pogson – tenor –sings his settings of some previous award winners with Denis Rothwell at the piano.
A Cambridge Choral Exhibitioner, Geoffrey Pogson worked for some years in international marketing before making his operatic debut as Remendado in the 1977 Edinburgh Festival ‘Carmen’. He then joined English National Opera and his subsequent career has involved many roles with the major British opera companies, overseas tours, recordings, TV and radio performances.
Denis Rothwell has enjoyed many musical collaborations with Geoffrey Pogson dating back to their student days when Denis was pianist with the Cambridge Footlights Revue. His professional life was with the Medical Research Institute in London but in parallel he has pursued a musical career in recitals, chamber ensembles, concertos and as an accompanist.
