Welcome to the eighth Mere Literary Festival which runs from Monday October 11th to Sunday October 17th. This year’s varied programme includes ‘big name’ as well as local authors, one of Britain’s best loved actresses plus talented actors, our local M.P. and extra workshops. There is the Literary Quiz to get the brain fizzing, a community concert to get the feet tapping, something to keep the children busy and the adjudication of the festival’s short story competition with major, local and children’s prizes to be awarded. We hope there is much to interest you and you will find details of how to book below.
Mere is an excellent base for a short break – nestling beneath the Downs it is steeped in history and full of secrets and surprises. While you take up your literary pursuits the rest of the family can explore, climb Castle Hill, walk on White Sheet Nature Reserve, go clay pigeon shooting or visit nearby Stourhead Gardens or Longleat House. Contact Mere Information Centre on 01747 861211 for hotel and B&B accommodation.
