Mere Literary Festival

Festival Organiser:
 Adrienne Howell, Lawrence's, Old Hollow, Mere, Warminster, Wiltshire. BA12 6EG (01747) 860475

This year’s poetry competition is officially launched on March 1st. and closes on July 11th.
Entries are invited from adults and young people for a poem not exceeding 40 lines.
Full details of prizes, sections and entry fees can be found with the entry form on this site.
Poet DAVID CADDY has kindly agreed to be the senior judge.  He will be well known as the founder of the East Street Poets and editor of the literary magazine Tears in the Fence.

The programme is taking shape and full details will appear later in the year but authors already booked include Guy Walters, Annabel Venning and Eva Schloss and poet Anna Knowles leading a poetry workshop.

As this year is the 60th. anniversary of the end of WW2 we are running another community project - this time to collect memories of 1945 When the War was Over.  Local residents are being asked to submit their memories of this momentous occasion and the aftermath of war.  It is hoped these will form the basis of an exhibition and a booklet.

Mere is an excellent base for a short break - nestling beneath the Downs it is steeped in history and full of secrets and surprises.  While you take up your literary pursuits the rest of the family can explore, climb Castle Hill, walk on White Sheet Nature Reserve, go clay pigeon shooting or visit nearby Stourhead Gardens or Longleat House.
Contact Mere Information Centre on 01747 861211 for hotel and B&B accommodation.
