Bigger mods...
In October 2002 I unfortunatly had a bit of a front end bump! (dont ask!) After much messing around with the insurance it went into a recomended garage. While it was in there I decided to do some body modifications at the same time.
I got a big bumper kit from 'euro car parts', though they cost less than in some places they were still quite good quality and look great when sprayed! I also got an eyebrow spoiler from them which was nice and solid (good price too). I got a debadged 4 lamp grille which was good quality from Germany. I had previously ordered an RGM one but it was really poor (in my opinion).
I got some clear side repeaters and front indicator lenses from the same guy I bought the car from, those went on aswell. I also bought a 'spax' suspension lowering kit from him as he never got round to fitting them on a previous golf he owned. These lowered the car 40mm and, although it doesn't sound a lot, it really changed the ride of the car!!
I then got some clear rear clusters to finish off the clear light look. These looked a bit out of place on there own and so I painted the VW and Golf badges white, this looks a little better but it still needs a nice exhaust to finish the back off!
I have also layed the rear wiper flat. This makes the back look a little tidier and adds a bit more style, in my opinion anyway! This mod was a lot easier than i thought it would be having been confused by 'Help' pages in magazines. For an easy step-by-step guide click here.
With all these mods the car looks compleatelly different and just the way I like it! (almost!)
Oct. 2003 - I've done a fair bit of engine work to the car and it now rivals GTi's.
I changed the standard pierburg 2e2 carb for a replacement Weber 32/34 DTML. This was worth while and improved the cars performance slightly without increasing fuel intake.
I exchanged the standard cam-shaft for a GTi one. This makes a lot of difference and makes each gear run a lot longer.
I also exchanged the tiny exhaust system (that all drivers have) for a Magnex stainless steel one. This made a HUGE amount of difference and the car felt SO much quicker straight away. Really impressed with the system.
I also got the car rolling road tested and set up by Tom Airey (Former Rally Cross champion) the car was recorded at 83bhp, which may not sound impressive but when you think the car started out at 55bhp its not too bad.
Thats all for now!
