In 1996, following a lead from Doris Hudspeth in Texas, I called Don Olvey in Alabama about a mare that he had for sale. He offered Sis Grant with or without a breeding to one of his two pinto Saddlebred stallions.
Driving to Alabama during Spring Break, I saw her, and chose Sultan's Sun Spots to be the sire of her foal. After school ended in May, I returned to Alabama and picked her up in foal. I prayed to GOD that the foal would be a pinto colt, built well, homozygous and well-mannered.
When we moved to Alvarado, Texas in 1998, I hitched Sunny to a two-wheeled cart and he helped me clear the land of rocks and branches. Once, we got stuck in the mud. I asked him to pull and he strained so hard that he broke the harness. It ruined the harness, but it helped me to see what kind of work ethic he had.
The first time he was ridden, he never bucked or reared, but just walked along quietly and he passes this, and other positive traits, to his foals. So far, everyone who has purchased a foal, or bred a mare to him, rave about the intelligence, beauty and the foals' desire to please. I love and enjoy this stallion, the mares and foals. We will have some for sale this Spring.
I prayed for him and GOD answered.
