"Under current law, dating back to 1949, there is no legal recompense for anyone whose house is lost to the sea."

notes:

1 'Old Hall Lane' [top] runs north-south behind the Naze Tower and adjoins both the proposed site of the LIVING NAZE project and the Naze Public Open Space

2. The adjacent cliffs form the focal point of conservation plans for the Naze Protection Society's CRAG WALK Heritage Project. - a joint cooperative venture with Tendring District Council and Essex Wildlife Trust.

3. This coastal area is part of the sea-ravaged Naze peninsula which extends to the north of the town of Walton-on-the-Naze.

4. The dotted lines on the blueprint mark the predicted cliff recession lines: the upper one for the cliff top; the lower one for the cliff 'toe'. The revetment wall [red] curves inwards because its continuation will only be completed in years to come - by which time the cliffs will have receded much further inland.

5. The green line [bottom] represents the current unprotected length of cliff face. [geology video clip]
GRADING: The rock revetment will allow the cliffs to 'grade' into a stable slope of 1 in 4 gradient [an eleven degree angle of repose]. This should protect the Tower footings - but Links Cafe will be lost.

TOWER - within grading line - SAVED!
LINKS CAFE - straddles grading line - LOST!
