Welcome to Monkstone Jet Ski & PWC Club. Here is a brief history of our club.

Several years ago there were several families who owned Jet Ski’s and liked to ski from Monkstone, Johnny’s Cove and Amroth beaches, so we thought it might be an idea if we all got together and formed our own club. In 2000 Monkstone Jet Ski & PWC Club was formed.  A number of us agreed to a few things regarding skiing off these beaches which, hopefully, would benefit all of us.

Some of us have been skiing here for since 1993.  We would like to think we have learned by our experiences, some good and some bad!  Several of us completed our RYA training and obtained our Certificate of Proficiency with the late great Mic Randall of Water Wise a good few years ago and this was very worthwhile as we learnt a lot about navigation and safety especially on the sea.

It is also very worthwhile if you are new to jet skiing or lack confidence as the information you will learn from this course will be invaluable.  You many not know that in many places now you cannot launch without a RYA Certificate, which in the long term can only benefit all responsible PWC enthusiasts. We would therefore encourage any PWC rider reading this who has yet to complete a RYA course to do so in the near future.

Monkestone Jet Ski & PWC Club have some guidelines and rules of the club, most of which are common sense and can only improve the safety and enjoyment of all our members and others that enjoy the waters in this area.  Members who do not comply with our guidelines will be excluded.

We would like to encourage any responsible PWC owners who already ski in this area or are considering doing so in the future to get in touch with our club so that we can all work together to ensure that we can continue to enjoy skiing in this bay in a responsible manner. Current members craft range from Stand up ski's to 3 seaters.  Coastal cruising, Wakeboarding, Waterskiing and towing, together with BBQ's on secluded beaches amongst friends is our idea of perfect time with our PWC's.

Since this was first written you may be aware that launching has been banned from Amroth making it very difficult for us to find access to the sea easily, we are currently trying to sort out this problem with the backing of the PWP and the R.Y.A. but, despite many letters, e-mails, phone calls and meetings since August 2004 currently we are no further forward which is very frustrating considering the time and effort some of our members have put into this.  We have produced and submitted several ideas of management of this slip which could be easily implimented but unfortunately this has met no response.

We are extremely disappointed that this happened as we, as a group, had always conducted ourselves in
a responsible manner and had actually very rarely spent anytime skiing off the Amroth beach but instead always travelled to the desiginated water ski area at Jonny's Cove and had over the years rescued several craft inc boats and PWC'S and assisted the Coastguard and RNLI in sea searches when requested.

Unfortunately since this ban the majority of members have now sold their craft, not through choice, but due to having nowhere to ski in this area, it is very unfortunate that they have been forced to make this decision and are unable to enjoy their leisure time in a manner of their own choice .

We are continuing to fight this ban and hope that sometime in the near future something can be done to benefit all watercraft owners who would like access to the sea in this area, which, at this current time is extremely limited.

The fact is that there is a serious lack of legitimate launch sites in the UK and the only way forward is  to have properly managed sites either run by councils or clubs to allow responsible and considerate PWC owners to enjoy their sport, if this matter is not seriously addressed with some urgency our sport will become increasingly difficult to enjoy.

We ourselves now use our boat while in the area and keep our ski's for use at home, but hope that by leaving this on the web it wil help and advise PWC owners of the situation.  We would like to hear from any boat users who are fellow wakeboarders in the area.
