Clairetone micro
Clairtone Micro

Well, if this  little radio looks familiar, don't be surprised.  It looks to be a direct copy of the Sinclair Micromatic, even down to it's "upside down" construction.  You would be forgiven for thinking it came from the Far East. Wrong.  Surprisingly enough it was made in Canada, with an excellent build quality!  Although I haven't traced out the circuit, it is also a two transistor reflex design, but without regeneration.  As a result it is unfortunately fairly "deaf" and was obviously intended for listening to local AM stations. One noticeable difference is the tuning capacitor - the Clairetone uses a "proper" rotary capacitor, where the Sinclair has a "postage stamp" compression trimmer.  The wrist strap is also an extra.

Like it's near relative, the Clairetone is designed for use with a crystal earpiece, and runs on a nominally 3v supply derived from two button cells.
