Made in Japan by
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., and measuring just 137x75x15mm,
this must be one of the smallest clock-radios going. The quartz clock has
full control of the radio with standard alarm and snooze functions. A tone alarm
is optional. Build quality is excellent and this receiver must have cost
a fair price when it was made in the 1970s. I'm not even sure whether this
model was available in the UK as mine was given to me by a radio ham friend (Peter
G0HES - now sadly silent key) who spent some time in Japan.
The radio covers FM 88-108MHz and medium wave 530-1640kHz with anologue tuning, and is powered by
two AAA cells. Other controls select the alarm: radio or chirp; display mode,
waveband, and on the top the radio "on, off, alarm" function selector.
The clock is backlit by pressing a button and has it's own separate battery, a 357
(AG13) silver oxide cell.
A telescopic antenna is provided for FM reception which measures 350mm fully
extended. The set works perfectly and I've had no reason to open it up so
unfortunately I can't post a picture of the insides. However a peek
through the clock battery compartment reveals two very thin PCBs populated with
surface mount parts.
