Dating from about 1960,
measuring just 108 x 70 x 28mm this little set was made in England by the innovative Perdio company. It
is a six transistor two waveband superhet, using a line-up of Mullard OC44
mixer/oscillator, 2 x OC45 IF amplifiers, OA91 detector diode, OC81D AF driver
and 2 off OC81 in a transformer driven totem-pole output stage. Other than
the OC81s, the transistors are all miniature versions. Power
supply is 9v from a PP3 battery. The aerial circuit is unusual in that
there is no long-wave aerial coil. Instead when long-wave is selected a loading
coil is switched in series with the medium-wave aerial coil.
The loading coil is in the pot core visible below and just to the left of the wavechange switch. You would be
forgiven for thinking it was the oscillator coil, but in this case the
oscillator coil is disguised to look like one of the IF transformers, just to
fool you! I certainly thought the loading coil was the oscillator at first
glance. When I acquired this receiver the PCB was cracked at
it's narrowest point, but after repair the radio works very well.
