After 4 qualifying rounds the last few were left - they were Nathan Russo bouncing for Hilltop Primary School in the under 11 boys closed catergory, Lani Dacey bouncing individually for Madeley High School in the under 13 girls open, Jessica Barnett bouncing both individually and as part of a team with Rebecca Broad and Laura McMahon for St John Fishers RC High School in the under 15 girls open, and finally Sara Fowell bouncing individually for Clayton High School also in the under 15 girls open.
The competition was held at The Triangle centre in East Sussex on the 15th of March so most of the bouncers stopped the night before so to avoid travelling down there at 4 a.m!
Nathan, Lani and the team of Jess, Becky and Laura had previuosly won all of the rounds leading up to this competition so now it was time to try and succeed again! This time however the competition was 10 times harder with all of the bouncers from all over the UK now meeting for the last tiem this year!
First of was Nathan in the under 11 boys catergory, Nathan was competiting first and his first set of marks (23.2) were down on all of those he had previously recieved - a little harsh we thought but thats how it is sometimes. Knowing that he had to score well to move up from 7th position Nathan produced another good routine and scored 24.1 placing in 5th position overall just .3 behind 3rd place! Well done Nathan you performed well and consistently scored well throughout all of the competitions.
Next up was Lani this was a good warm-up competition for Lani who was just starting her Grade 1 circuit ready for the British Championships to be held in July. Lani being in year seven still has another year in this competition so many of the bouncers that she was against compete in the age group above her normally so she really had to bounce well to even think about getting in the upper half of the group!
After her set routine Lani was lying in 5th place after scoring 26.6! She needed to bounce at her best to move up and gain a place on the rostrum and with such a strong group it wasn't going to be easy! Competing with a 6.9 tariff Lani bounced superbly and earned herself 3rd place with 24.9 form marks! Well done Lani just the British Championships to go now!
Finally Sara, Jess, Becky and Laura get their chance to show thm what they are made of! Sara who had previuosly finished in 4th place at the zonals hadn't qualified through to this round but someone had dropped out and so Sara was able to compete-lucky her!!!
Sara found the group extremely difficult and nerves started to kick in! She had decided to change her routine taking out her 1 3/4 and thus lowered her tariff from 6.1 to 5.2 so she really was going to have to bounce at her best! Sara didn't start well and scored just 24.0 on her set well down on what she has done in the past, unfortunatley nerves started to get the better of her and although Sara bounced resonably well with her set it wasn't enough to move her from 10th position. However Sara still has one year left in this group so hopefully next year wont be quite so nerve wracking!!
Finally it was St John Fishers turn to show the rest of the teams what they were up against! Although it wasn't going to be an easy ride for them, they couldn't afford ANY mistakes as they were bouncing with just a team of three when all other teams were made up of four bouncers! Jess who was also competing as an individual had a very tough group her tariff of 6.1 was the second lowest there but with excellent form shining through she managed to get the team of to a good start by gaining form marks of 26.5 which placed her 2nd place overall. Becky and Laura both bounced wonderfully scoring 25.5 and 26.0 respectively- just the vols to go!
Becky and Jess both had the same voluntary routines and were both competing for the first time with the routines Jess got off to a solid start scoring 23.7 not quite her top form but still wonderful, she finished in 6th place overall. Becky was next and got off to a bit of a shaky start but held it together to score 22.1 just one more to go and thats it. The teams were very close at this point and Laura needed to bounce well to get them onto the rostrum scoring 23.5 with a 5.2 tariff she did it - they had finished 1st. The girls were overjoyed at the outcome they had finally done it they were the National Schools Champions - Under 15. It was a wonderful outcome after training so hard for it and bouncing so well together they deserved nothing less.
Well done to everyone who managed to make it to the finals it is an amazing success for anyone to have got there - congratulations!
