CITY OF S-O-T
TRAMPOLINE CLUB
Review of 2002
This was an outstanding year for the trampoline club with many of our bouncers attaining the scores necessary to compete at Grade 2 or above. Lisa, Laura, Louise, Claire and Leigh brought the total number of National bouncers to TEN!

The first competition of the year was held at Stourbridge where just two of our competitors were competing - Claire and Louise. Although both finished with a medal placing 1st and 2nd respectively, neither of them qualified to the next grade being just .2 away form the score needed.
At the start of the year Lani was aiming to qualify through to the National Finals which were to be held in Birmingham in July. She successfully qualified and was off for the first time to the finals. This was the first time a member of the squad had achieved it and it was a great success. Lani and her coach Diane worked hard throughout the last year and it payed off, Lani finished 7th in the UK - not bad for a starter!! Click here for full report.
The next competition, grade 3 - 7 again saw newcomer Simon take part in his first grading competition and the return of a few injured bouncers! Click for full report and photos.
On the 4th of May, Jess and Becky travelled down to Huddersfield for their first Grade 2 competition with aims of maintaining for the rest of the year. Both of the girls were outstanding finishing in 3rd and 4th place respectively which meant that they not only maintained but qualified for the grade 2 Nationals which were to be held in November.
With success had in previously in the year we didn't enter any grade 7 - 2 competitions over the summer allowing us time to build up our routines ready for the autumn. We did however, some of us, go to a summer camp in July. It was brilliant and we hope to go again next year! Click here for more info. and photos!
October was a busy period for the club with three competitions in that one month!
On the 6th of October the next grade 3 -7 took place at Crystal Leisure centre. There were 6 competitors bouncing for the club, Claire, Lisa, Laura, Nicky, Sammy and our new bouncer George! All did extremely well with 3 Golds and 3 Silver! Claire (2nd), Lisa (1st), and Laura (2nd) all qualified through to grade 2 and Nicky (2nd) qualified through to grade 3. Unfortunately Sammy and George failed to qualify to grade 3 but still won their age groups!
Our last day at camp!! Boo-hoo!

The second of the competitions was the West Midlands closed competition held on the 19th of October in Solihull. We had a further two new bouncers - Alex Worrall and Laura Swanick bouncing for the club in their first competition. Two of our strong bouncers were missing Claire and Laura but we still took 12 bouncers to the event. It was the first time we had bounced in this event, one which determines who the best bouncers in the area are, so we had trained hard ready to show people what we are made of!!! For many this was treated as a warm up to the grade 2 event which was being held a week later a time to try out new routines and make any necessary adjustments. The club did extremely well taking 5 individual medals and a team gold in the under 15 girls. Full report.
The final competition of October was the last grade 2 competiion before the grade 2 Nationals. For Sara, Leigh and Louise this was their first grade 2 competition and their last chance to maintain. Jess and Becky were their to build up confidence in their routines and to make up a team in the under 15 catergory. Everyone scored above what was needed to maintain and Sara and Louise were shocked to discover that they had not just maintained but also qualified through to the National G2 finals. On top of this Jess, Becky and Louise also scored the relevent scores to progress to Grade 1!!
Medals were just missed with Louise finishing in 4th followed by Becky in 9th, Jess 20th, Sara 23rd and Leigh 26th. Unfortunately the girls failed to take home a team medal finishing in 4th place.
Following shorlty after were the Grade 2 Nationals which were being held in Elmbridge on 24th November. After an exhausting journey down south we arrived at a very small and packed out leisure centre. With four bouncers and one team we were extremely pleased to have made it this far. The under 15 girls were first to go with all of them competiting extremely well- Jess got into the top 10 which meant she had to bounce at the end of the comp, very nerve wracking! Sara and Becky finished back to back in 12th and 13th position and the team finished in 3rd place - a brilliant result! Next to go was Louise unfortunately she finished in 23rd place performing below her usual standard.
With all of the grading competitions out of the way it was time for the schools competition to begin. Following on from last years success at the Staffordshire schools (see report) we entered even more bouncers and hosted the event at our local leisure centre. The event was a huge success despite a few hic -ups regarding insurance along the way! The club achieved 5 team golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze and individually 9 golds, 10 silver and 9 bronze!! Full report.
Last year we chose not to enter the schools competitions due to the commitment required and a lack of time but this year we sent 17 competitors in both open and closed catergory's to the Midlands schools competition. This competition was the last one before the new year and many were hoping to qualify through to the zonals which was the first competition in 2003. Full report.

This year was an amazing success for the club and by the ned of the year the club has grown to over 180 members with many more being selected to bounce for the squad. The number of coaches has risen from three to eight (profiles) and we have also purchased two more trampolines. The club is going from strength to strength and with a move set to expand the club further in January the only way were going is up!!
