Royal Rios
It's been a tough few years for Kansas City. In some ways this season is no different, however the Royals are starting to show some promise. Despite being at the bottom of the AL West they still have a better record than the entire NL East - such is the dominance of the American League this year. Key to their recent successes has been outfielder Alex Rios. Rios had a great week against Anaheim's formidable rotation hitting .462 with a .500 OBP, 12 hits, 5 extra base hits, 7 runs and 9 RBI - a fine Player of the Week performance!
It's always a difficult season for a defending champion. It's no different this year for the Los Angeles Dodgers who have found their pitchers below par and some of their offense living on their reputations rather than putting in performances. Vladimir Guerrero is one of the most consistent performers, and despite coming up against a resurgent Giants team eager to put one over their neighbours, still managed to put in a top drawer performance hitting .522 over the week.
Some say the White Sox rotation is so old they need regular laxatives and to be tucked up in bed early with a nice mug of cocoa. Curt Schilling proved this week that there is no substitute for experience though, going 2-0 against the Orioles with a 0.54 ERA and fanning 15 in the process.
