WALKING INTO TROUBLE by Holden Lane Yr7 group
Working with small group of Year 7 pupils at Holden Lane High School, Stoke-on-Trent, during Spring term 2003, helped to give them the confidence to create, script and perform this play, shown here in storyboard, for a school assembly.

And so they bring in "the atom". A nasty piece of work and leader of the rival gang. She is unconcerned about the death.

Realising the game's up, Witty's sister tells them how it was "all an accident". However, she denies making any phone calls on the day, even though her mobile number was the last one found on the dead girl's message list.

Then they get a breakthrough as a school planner belonging to "Witty" is found near the scene. Witty is genuinely surprised and not at all happy.

Bit by bit the story comes out. Smiler and Knuckles meet her walking home after someone let her tyres down and broke her bicycle pump.

They leave her as she answers the mysterious phone call. She doesn't notice the atom's mafia quietly close in on her.

She panics and runs off. The gang chase her as she heads in fear, without thinking, towards the quarry

The posse, playing football nearby, hear a scream and go to investigate.

Rivals brought together in tragedy stare silently at the crumpled body.

And so the atom's mafia is arrested and charged. But who made the phone call?

Could it have been an elaborate set up to get rid of a rival gang?
