Family Tree of Steven Bunney

Family Tree of Steven Bunney

My Family Heritage

As far as I can gather my family originally came from Cornwall but the surname came to England in 1066 from Normandy but is supposed to be of viking origin. In Cornwall my ancestors were miners a tradition which was carried on until the closure of the majority of the british coalmines in the 1980s. The family moved around various parts of the UK to get work before settling in Wales in the late 1880s.

My Ancestors

My greatgreatgrandfather John Bunney was born in Cornwall. He had at least 3 children William born 1853, Alexander born approx 1856, John(my great grand father)born approx 1857

Children of John Bunney

William met and married Margaret a single mother of 2 while living in Mountain Ash with his parents. They married about 1878/9 and in 1881 were living at Trinkeld Cottages, Swarthmoor, Ulverston. In 1896 William and Margaret were living in the USA and took their citizenship on 1/9/1896 at Fayette County Court, Union Town, PA. In 1911 William was a mine manager for the Hannah coal company in Piney Fork, Jefferson County, Ohio. He and Margaret were still living in Piney Fork in 1922 and their postal address was po box 316 Piney Fork, Ohio. William was still living in Ohio in 1930.

My GreatGrandfather John Bunney was born in St. Austel, Cornwall approx March 1857. In 1880 he was living in Swarthmoor, Ulverston, Cumbria where he married Mary Ann Evans who was born in Aberaman, Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales in about 1859. While living in Ulverston they had 2 children. William John born 2nd September 1881 & Eliza Ann born about Sept 1883. In 1885 they were living in 117 Quarry Row, Penrhiwceiber, Mountain Ash, Glamorgan where Isaiah 1885 and Daniel Henry 1887 were born. In 1920 US census they were living in South Fayette, Allegheny, PA and William John was a manager of a merchant store & both Daniel Henry & Elsie May were clerks in a general store. In 1921 he was manager of Federal Stores,Pitco.William and Catherine had another daughter Dorothy born about 1920 in PA.Catherine may have died soon after as in approx 1926 William had remarried to Julia and in mid 1930's he was working in a butchers shop in Detroit. It is possible that they moved to Canada as family lore says that William John became the manager of a cooperative in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I do have an address for a W J Bunney in Winnipeg for 1948 but have not yet confirmed if it is the same person.
