Burmese

On Sunday 4th January 2004 I finally became a breeder of pedigree cats. Tilly, Adtrebu Chamstraw Tillie, my brown burmese was finally delivered of a beautiful litter of 7 kittens. We had an emergency visit to the vets where a caesarean took place. In the litter were 2 sets of twins. One of the twins on its way to the birth canal had managed to flip the horn over, effectively blocking the exit. I was overwhelmed at the way Tilly accepted the kits straight away and allowed them to crawl all over her battered body!

One week later and 6 kittens are thriving. Unfortunately the 7th kitten, one of the brown twins, died after 36 hours. Possibly he was the one that had caused the problem with the delivery. We have a wonderful array of colours. one blue tortie, one brown tortie, one choc/lilac tortie, one brown boy and two choc/lilac boys. Doesn't mum look proud?

The kits are growing beautifully and really filling out. There's not much room at the milk bar now!

The kits are nearly 4 weeks old now and are very mobile and curious. The little choc/lilac tortie has turned out to be a chocolate boy and the choc/lilac twin boys are definitely chocolate boys too. There is babycat food in their kitten pen but they're not interested yet! I've decided I'm keeping the blue tortie girl. She is a real little character!

One month old! They are developing into little stunners! They can all climb out of the kitten pen now and are into everything. They are beginning to eat solids and putting on even more weight.

They have discovered the kitty castle! It is enormous fun but there are problems when mum decides to join in. I don't think it was designed to withstand mum's weight!

This is week 9. They are developing such characters! Little blue tortie is trying to touch her nose, the three choc boys look more like triplets than twins and a singleton. The brown and brown tortie are just ready for a nap. They have just had their first injections and I am planning to start introducing them to the rest of my feline family. Hopefully that will ensure that they will be bombproof when they go to their new homes!!

You wouldn't believe how lucky I was to get them all to pose for this picture! They are normally so lively but on this occasion were just about to snuggle down and go to sleep. They have all got wonderful homes to go to. It is a very bittersweet time as I will be sad to see them go. Luckily, I am keeping Enya, the blue tortie, so I am not losing them all. The new owners are all very good at keeping in touch so that will help tremendously when they finally leave!

Well, the bittersweet moment has arrived! All the other kits have gone to their new homes with their proud owners. Little Enya looks really comfortable sat on the digibox. She is enjoying more attention now the others have gone and enjoys sitting on my lap, helping me with the computer. I hope she enjoys her new life as a show cat and breeding queen as well as a much loved pet!
