Local Attractions

 

o   Situated in a Derbyshire village just south of Matlock and the Peak District, The Cottage is on a hillside facing the sun with splendid valley views over the River Derwent.

o   A 17th century, stone built country cottage, it is detached, has two bedrooms, beamed ceilings and mullioned windows.

o   The accommodation sleeps 4.

o   The main room has a beamed ceiling and woodblock floor with lounge seating and a dining table.

o   A colour television, video player, books and games, (chess, scrabble etc.) is provided.

o   The separate kitchen has an oil-fired Aga (lit in winter or by arrangement) an electric cooker, microwave oven, refrigerator, toaster, kettle, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.

o   An iron, ironing board, and vacuum cleaner are provided.

o   A main bedroom has a double bed and views over the valley; a second bedroom sleeps 2 in adult bunk beds.

o    The upstairs bathroom has a toilet, hand basin, bath, shower and electric razor point.

o   A conservatory/porch has views over the Derwent Valley.

 

o   The garden has an off-road car parking space.

o   Bed linen is provided but towels are not.

o   All heating and lighting is provided and the Cottage is very ‘cosy’ in winter

NB. The Garden is terraced and Not suitable for wheelchairs or very young children.

 

o     An excellent area for rambling, Crich Chase, Shining Cliff Wood, Cromford canal and other walks may be enjoyed.

o     The 50-mile ‘Derwent Heritage Way’ footpath is at the foot of the hill. - The valley is a World Heritage Site.

o     It is only a few miles by car from Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Kedleston Hall.

 

o     The ancient, Roman, lead mining town of Wirksworth and the mining museum in Cromford are within easy reach.

o     Visit Derbyshire’s unique Well-Dressing ceremonies.

 

o     The National Tramway Museum (Crich) is just one mile away.

o     Visit the Ecclesbourne Valley Steam Railway, the Peak Rail, and the Steeple Grange Light Railway

 

o     Children will enjoy ‘Gulliver's Kingdom’ the theme park in nearby Matlock Bath.

o     Alton Towers is approximately 45mins drive.

 

o     For the energetic, rock climbing, caving, hang-gliding and ballooning may be pursued.

 

o     The local rivers and Carsington reservoir provide opportunity for the angler.

 

 

o     The TV series ‘Peak Practice’ is filmed in the immediate locality.

o     The rock face and cave featured in BBC’s ‘Stig of the Dump’ is a few hundred yards away.

 

There are several local pubs and restaurants - one within easy walking distance.

Derbyshire is one of the best-endowed counties in England.
