About BURPS - some FAQs
§

§       When does BURPS meet?

Currently BURPS meets once per week on Wednesdays at 7.30pm. We try to keep to a regular date to fit in with everyone’s busy schedule, though we do change occasional dates as necessary.

§       Where does BURPS meet?

Though essentially based in Bury St Edmunds, we meet in both Bury and Stowmarket. At the moment we meet in each other’s homes and have done since the group’s inception.

§       I’m interested in coming along and joining. Would I be welcome?

Absolutely. Based on questions I’ve been asked before, I need to stress that the main venue we use is a first floor residence with a steep staircase and no lift. This may cause access issues for some.

As for the group, we always welcome new players. Obviously as we only run one game at a time (we are relatively small) there isn’t the same range of choice of games as there is in a bigger club. We’re always ready to hear from people, and if possible we like to meet up and go for a pint and curry so you can find out all about us.

§       What games do you play?

We are currently playing a Cyberpunk Fudge campaign, which you find out more about elsewhere on the site. Prior to this we played a Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e game. So we can cater for breaks, holidays, or just pauses in the main campaign, we also have an ongoing Amber game run by Chris, an ongoing Call of Cthulhu game run by Geraint and a relatively new Fudge Modern game run by John. We have also played Dark Continent (David Salisbury’s excellent  African Age of Discovery setting) as well as Classic Traveller. Very occasionally we have an RPG free night, where we will play the likes of Munchkin or Frag.

§       What style of play do you prefer?

We do use a variety of rules systems, but we pride ourselves on being able to incorporate what we like, and ditch what we don’t. The group wouldn’t suit someone who is particularly keen on the minutiae of rules systems, because as Peter so aptly put it “the rules system is just there to hang the campaign off”. We like to roleplay and really, the more creative and original the better.

§       How do I get involved?

Well, if you haven’t been put off already, please contact Mark or Peter to find out more or just to have a chat.
