In the best tradition of Role Playing Societies, the “Boys
at BURPS” have attended several RPG conventions. Having never attended any such
thing before, when we attended Conjuration in Cambridge back in August 03 we
were afraid that the experience would be something akin to a cross between a
Star Trek convention, and a 70s Open University professor outing……..and we were
right. My one persistent memory was of a bearded gentleman on a panel in a
“Free the Babylon Five” T-Shirt, while Peter’s summed it up by saying that when
he got home, he felt like having a good shave. Anyway, it was an interesting
experience, and we resolved that the next time the group attended a convention
we would actually take part. In other words, play a game or something.
The next convention we attended
was Dragonmeet 2004 which was an altogether different experience. Unlike
Cambridge, it appeared to be a much busier con, probably as it was a one-day
affair, rather than the weekend set-up. Either way, we nibbled our nails and
joined in a Traveller game.
In August 05, we went to Cambridge
again, this time spending the morning playing Munchkin, and the afternoon
playing Heroquest, mind you, the less said about that system the better ;-)
Finally, last December 2005, we
returned to Dragonmeet in Kensington. It was a fun packed day with AD&D
(old style) in the morning and Traveller again in the afternoon.
