Role-playing games have a long tradition in the UK with Dungeons & Dragons recently celebrating it's 30th anniversary. BURPS started in March 2003 with a long running campaign based on the Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition system which was recently concluded. Throughout, we have also played the Chaosium Call of Cthulhu system, Paranoia 1st edition, Amber, a diceless games system based on the writings of Roger Zelazny, David Salisbury's Dark Continent; a role-playing game based on the scramble for Africa in the 19th century, Classic Traveller and Fudge. The emphasis of our group is on having fun, and rather than fixate on complex rule systems we value role-playing above all.
The group is made up of role-players of many years of experience, however we are always wiling to help people get into the hobby. No experience in gaming is necessarily required, however a taste for the dramatic will prove very helpful. Our members are a mixed and varied bunch, some are more flamboyant than others, but all play for fun. As part of our interest in the hobby, we attended Consternation the British Role-Playing Society's two yearly convention in Cambridge last August and are often seen at Dragonmeetan annual role-playing convention held in Kensington each December.
