Lilith, a drow priestess from the Secret City beneath Mount Madruk has been a thorn in the side of many sections of Magrean society for some years now. When the party first learned of her name, they heard that she had been responsible for the assassination of Khante's High Priest of Correlan Larethian. Rurik Dankil, the dwarf, linked her directly with a plot within the city's Thieves' Guild to export arms and explosives to the troubled Dorinian province. Separatists there would use these resources in their continuing struggle, and in return sold large amounts of narcotics to Lilith's agent in Khante: Salo Asther. Later Rurik killed Lilith's daughter Selena before him and party defeated Asther after uncovering his organisation in Khante's Shambles district.

A campaign of revenge ensued where Lilith's henchman, a duegar named Danik, murdered a number of Rurik's family, including his sister. It was at this point that the fates of both the party and Lilith became inexorably linked. Rurik worked hard to exploit her organisation and to learn more of his new enemy. It transpired that both Lilith and her daughter were members of a secret organisation known only as the Circle of Five, a network of powerful individuals working together for some seemingly common cause.

Further investigation provided a link between the High Priestess and Dr Roa from the University, though it wasn't until much later that it occurred to the party that their ultimate aims different. Where Roa wanted to take a grip on power, it was clear that Lilith wanted to destroy, to cause as much chaos as she could. While their aims remain the same Lilith and Roa will work toward their common goals. What happens after that is not known at this point.

Lilith is not a force to be trifled with. When individuals have approached her alone they have either been killed, as Limsnock the gnome was, or enslaved through the use of an iron ring. She is the one principal villain who does not appear to have a base of power, preferring to wander from place to place giving out her orders through the telepathic link she has with her ring wearers. She occasionally meets with Dr Roa at the university, but her visits are always made at short notice, and are surrounded by a veil of secrecy.

As a servant of the Spider Goddess Lolth, Lilith has a deep hatred of much of the life that exists on the surface. She avoids open confrontation, preferring to leave the scene after summoning some form of vile creature if threatened. Roa may be the foremost wizard within the University, however Lilith is no mean spell caster. Thorik the dwarf was nearly killed when the party discovered her house in Dorin. As he was searching through her front room, a small sphere rolled into the room before exploding. Though he recognised the arcane spell at work, he was unable to save himself from severe injury.

Disappearing from the scene for some time, the party often wondered where Lilith had gone, or indeed, what was she planning? She returned in the guise of Jiani'el the Guildmistress of Assassins, a post she had held all along. Her appearance in the palace convinced Roa that his time had not come, that he must wait. Though she remained quiet, behind the scenes she was arranging random murders of both the emperor's family and of various priests and dignitaries. Many of these killings were carried out by an unsuspecting Jonathan Harkness. Harkness, a skilled killer was being paid handsomely, and it was some time before he suspected her real identity. After starting an all out war with the thieves and assassins, Lilith moved to call her drow sisters to raid Magrea's northern reaches. With the party closing in, she fought with a mysterious | |
