|
The campaign is centred upon the city of Khante the capital of the Magrean Empire. A product of the expansionist behaviour of Magrea's former emperors, the empire is a huge melting pot of cultures, races and beliefs.

A land of diverse peoples, there is often conflict and rebellion and an uneasy peace has lasted for the last five hundred years. This is since a legendary wizard known only as "The Winter King" first took his armies across the continent in a reign of terror before disappearing in mysterious circumstances. Some say he was killed at the hands of a famous hero, whose name has been lost in the midsts of time. Others say he was defeated but not killed, only to retreat to the mountains while he planned his revenge.

In recent times Magrea has suffered serious political upheaval. Initially it looked as though Magrea's churches were the target of groups unknown. A monastery dedicated to the god Pelor was first to be attacked then destroyed. Then temples across Magrea's southern coastline dedicated to both Pelor and Hieronyous were being burned to the ground.

Trouble began brewing on Magrea's northern borders. A dispute almost became outright war when Magrean forces and armies from neighbouring Par-e-nul amassed, facing each other across the border. Meanwhile, in the Magrean province of Dorin, a dislike of the current regime almost became rebellion as the separatists gained sympathy from the locals.

Attacks on the temples continued, with a variety of undead seen in the city. Some even believe that they originated from the University of Magicks, Alchemy and the Arcane a staunch ally of the Empire. Trouble continued, and reached boiling point with the assassination of the emperor himself. His seven year old son assumed the throne aided by one of his father's advisors Dr. Xavier Roa, a University man, and head of the School of Necromancy. The domestic situation has since calmed.
